UCLan’s Civic Drone Centre team were on hand to discuss their work and future plans as the Media Innovation Studio hosted the launch of UCLan’s new state-of-the-art Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC).
The £60m EIC, due to open by January 2018, is the largest single investment project at the University and will become a centre of excellence for innovation and teaching in the North West and aims to establish UCLan as a leading University for engineering innovation.
Engineers, business leaders, researchers, academics and public officials welcomed the initiative during a highly interactive evening of networking and conversations.
Paul Egglestone said: ‘The Civic Drone Centre was born out of a research project that demonstrated the huge advantage of bringing together people from very different disciplines to tackle a real world problem.
“Linking engineers and media professionals may look like an odd mix but the creative interactions between people who just think about stuff very differently is inspiring.
“An Engineering Innovation Centre that’s based on the same cross disciplinary mind set will transform the entire sector and create a new breed of engineers hungry to change the way the world thinks about engineering, manufacturing, materials science – you name it!”
