On the 23rd February 2017 many people braved storm Doris our joint event with the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) held at UCLan’s Preston city centre campus in the Media Innovation Studio. The day-long event first a showcased many varied unmanned-aerial-vehicle-related projects funded by NATEP (National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme) followed by an evening of networking around drones. This is not the first time the Civic Drone Centre and NWAA have organised an event they worked together on the centre’s last networking evening back in November 2016.

Tom Blaksley – Drone Partnerships at what3words (not a NATEP funded project) – gave a presentation on what3words’ innovative global addressing system is and how it can be used with drones. what3words describes what it offers are:
…a global addressing system.
It has divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique
3 word address.
what3words provides a precise and incredibly simple way to talk about location. And it means everyone and everywhere now has an address.
